BBC Radio 2 live from Rizon Jet FBO
BBC Radio 2 is commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain with a day of live broadcasts from Biggin Hill airfield, the fighter station at the heart of the battle, on Friday 18 September.
The day starts with Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show being broadcast live from Biggin Hill. At the end of the show, Chris will be flown in a two-seat Spitfire and broadcast live from the cockpit. Lunchtime presenter Jeremy Vine will also be broadcasting his live phone-in show from Biggin Hill.
Later, presenters Dermot O’Leary, Jeremy Vine and Sophie Raworth will be joined by the BBC Concert Orchestra, as well as musicians from the armed forces and guest singers as they share stories from the battle. Rare archived footage from the conflict, modern day RAF personnel and a cast of actors will bring the stories to life to commemorate the 75th anniversary.
There will be an evening live concert staged in the Rizon Jet hangar at Biggin Hill called ‘The Battle of Britain At 75’. Tickets are available to watch it live or at cinemas around the country.
Concert information:
* Car parks open from 4pm and are free
* Aerial displays from Spitfires and Hurricanes, WWII heritage vehicles and food/refreshments from 5.30pm
* Doors to seating open from 6.30pm
* Concert starts at 8pm.
The event and cinema stream will be supporting RAF service charities with all profits donated to The Royal Air Forces Association, The Royal Air Forces Benevolent Fund and The Battle of Britain Memorial Trust.
